Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the qualifications of your Parent Coach?

A: Alyssa graduated with a Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Texas - San Antonio in 2015. Alyssa became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2016 and has been licensed in the state of Texas since 2018. She has broad experience providing ABA therapy to neurodivergent children and adults in a variety of settings, as well as working with the whole family unit. She is also a parent to a beautiful, 20-month old girl!

Q: What is ABA?

A: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science of learning and behavior. The goal is to understand the why behind behaviors, increase behaviors that are helpful and teach replacement behaviors if harmful or affect learning.

Q: Is Parent Coaching a replacement for ABA?

A: Generally speaking, if a BCBA from a certified clinic has recommended your child for ABA, parent coaching will not be a replacement for these services. However, it will be an incredible tool to complement the therapy your child will be receiving! Your parent coach has over 10 years of providing ABA therapy and will know what you're going through!

Q: How are coaching appointments conducted?

A: All coaching appointments will be conducted over Zoom. Our Coach will make sure you have the correct information at least 24 hours before your appointment!

Q: Do I have to live in the United States?

A: No, as long as you have access to Zoom, we can find a time and solution that works for you!

Q: May my child be present during our session?

A: Our sessions will be parents-only; however if observation of your child is deemed beneficial for appropriate recommendations, this may be suggested.

Q: Is Parent Coaching the same as therapy?

A: Parent coaching is focused on improving the relationship between you and your child and finding solutions for your family. Psychotherapy is focused on overcoming the problems arising from mental health disorders, such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD. As a Parent Coach, I don't provide psychotherapy. If you think you or your family could benefit from therapy, I encourage you to seek a qualified professional in your area!

Q: What should I expect during a Parent Coaching session?

A: First, head over to the Services page to pick a date and time that works best for your schedule (based upon our Parent Coach's calendar). You are only required to make a small deposit to book the appointment. A confirmation email will be sent to you with the link to the Zoom meeting, date and time of the session. Once we're connected, we'll start by spending some time going over our coaching process and getting to know each other. You can ask as many questions as you want! I especially want to hear about your challenges, hopes, and goals about the future of your family. At the end of the hour, we will schedule a follow-up meeting. Session notes will be mailed to you within 24 hours after each session. You have unlimited messaging support between sessions during working hours. Let me know about success stories, questions, or concerns at any time!
